This is a deciduous or semi-evergreen shrub or climber that grows at a fast pace. You can plant it against a post, tree or wall to create a visual interest with its dark green, almost thornless stems and ovate or elliptical shiny green leaves with a purple tinge. The showy, clustered flowers fill your garden with their pleasant, musky aroma.
Deeply water to soak the soil up to a depth of 6”-7”, weekly. The soil shouldn’t be left soggy.
Can be routinely pruned in late summer post-flowering.
Apply a complete fertilizer in late winter or early spring. Mulch in late winter.
