Tips And Myths For Saving Money On Gas – Including Walking!

A lot people are seriously worried about fuel prices today, and many are at a loss for what they should be doing to help conserve. Other than driving less, what can be done? Well, there are some tips and myths out there, and putting them to the test – or talking with a reliable source who has already done so – is the way to find out whether they will work for you or not.

One tip that is legitimate is to drive more moderately. If you drive like a maniac (i.e. aggressively) you could cost yourself gasoline. The average savings when an aggressive driver became a moderate driver was 31%, which is enough to make a difference in how much you spend on gasoline. Slow down and you could save up to 14% versus constantly driving over the speed limit.

Plus there’s so much more you can do. Using cruise control and avoiding long periods of idling (like being stuck in traffic or waiting to pick your kids up from school) can save you 14% and 19% respectively. If you’re going to be sitting for longer than one minute, turn off your vehicle.

Those boots were made for walking! Get a little exercise while you save money. If you rather feel the wind in your hair, ride your bike. Trust me a good bike ride will not only save you money but will also remind you of your carefree youth.

Some myths that really don’t make much difference as far as gasoline consumption include windows down vs. A/C on, and making sure you have the right tire pressure – but that’s important for other reasons, so check it often, just don’t expect to save any gasoline from it.
