The palm oil industry is campaigning and marketing this as a good oil that is not destroying the environment. Oh, really! As I said, I saw first hand the destruction that they now want to shove under the rug. Further, how can they deny the pictures of the orangutans with their hands cut off? The sanctuary in Sepilok has tons of archives documenting the destruction of habitat and species. Thank you gardenmandy for making people aware of this horrible ruination to our planet and our lives. Just because it is in Southeast Asia, doesn’t mean it is not going to affect you. If you ever get the opportunity to go to Borneo, this is an amazing trip to take.

I was disheartened to see the chart showing the spiraling increase in palm oil production on one of your links. Palm oil is bad for you and was taken off the market in the ’80s when everyone was into no fat diets. Now it is creeping back and being touted as a healthy oil. Sorry, it will clog your arteries and is one of the worst oils you can ingest. The American Heart Association specifically says, “Stay away from palm oil!” They place it next to lard as a highly saturated oil.
