Save Money and Grow Your Own Sunflowers
Sunflowers are a universally loved flower because, they add a burst of sunshine to any home and they are also a well-loved crop because, their seeds offer many health benefits.

How to Grow Your Own

Step 1 – If your garden has vegetables and other flowers growing in it already you should place your sunflowers in the far north side of your garden. Just make sure that they will receive full sunlight and that the seeds are planted in soil with proper drainage.

Step 2 – Plant the sunflower seeds one inch deep and at least six inches apart from each other.

Step 3 – Once you’ve planted the seeds add a layer of top soil over them to conserve moisture then water them well.

Tips and Tricks
Since sunflowers are able to resist cold snaps like frost, you should plant them before the start of your last frost to insure that they have more time to grow.

You can harvest sunflowers for their flowers just as soon as they start to open up but if you’re harvesting them for their seed you should wait until they start to turn brown. To protect the seeds, cover the flowers with wire mesh bags or old panty hose.
