Phil Gramm, the former Senator from Texas, once said, “Half the world does not know the joys of wearing cotton underwear.” He probably meant to extoll the virtues of free trade and capitalism rather than express his views on undergarments, but his point is duly noted. The textile industry is never anything less than bent on satisfying world demand, to be sure, but there is also pressure to conduct their business in a way that will not harm the environment.

Not Like Other Items

Organic cotton has been used to make a lot more than just socks and T-shirts. Jeans, designer dresses, lingerie and more have all been brought from farm fields to department store racks in a way that is sustainable and ethical. This even applies to some of the most sensitive of fashion items – namely, bras. A bra isn’t like a pair of socks; it can’t just fit, or even just fit well. The natural softness of organic materials (grown as they are without harmful chemical additives) will provide the kind of irritation-free comfort that is obviously desired.
