Nothing says summer more than melon. Whether you prefer cantaloupe, watermelon or honeydew, they all remind us of sweet relief during the dog days of summer.

Melons like lots of heat to be sure to plant them in a sunny spot.  They are heavy feeders so give them compost tea every couple weeks.  Be sure your PH is neutral to keep the melon sweet.

You can train melons to either grow up a trellis or across the group. In my opinion, the trellis method is much better. It not only helps keep pests off your fruit but also helps control disease by keeping your melons off the ground.

Melons are bothered by the usual suspects, so keep an eye out for aphids, beetles, slugs and snails.

Good luck and enjoy reminiscing with this sweet treat.
