Introduction To Heirloom Vegetables
So I am walking through the grocery store today and I come across the produce section. I decide to take a look around to see if there is anything missing from my garden. That’s when I see the Heirloom tomatoes and an idea hits me
This is a perfect opportunity to talk about how magical heirloom veggies are.
Heirloom vegetables are varieties of seeds that have been around for centuries. Many of them lost popularity but have begun to re-emerge in recent years
So what’s the big deal with old vegetable seed you ask?
Well first they taste SO GOOD. There are much more flavorful than the varieties we get today.
Second, many of them look kind of funky. I’m sure many of you have seen those weirdly shape tomatoes in the store. Chances are those are heirloom. Because of their funny shapes and colors kids love them. Best part is they are not hard to grow in you garden at home and almost every vegetable is available. They would be perfect to get kids interested in the garden.
Thirdly, these veggies have really stood the test of time. There are tons of retailers that sell organic heirloom seeds both online and in the store. Give them a try! Heirloom vegetables are fun, funky and easy to grow.
