How ‘Green’ Are Soybeans?

Green living has become a serious topic today, with more and more people taking interest in it. Soybeans have long been thought to be one of the greenest things that a person could get involved with. Not only are they a good source of protein but also a viable alternative to petrol.
As it turns out, they can be a problem for other crops. In Brazil they are threatening the biodiversity of the tropics and they are taking over.
Soybeans might be a good source for alternative energy, but their cultivation can have a lot of impact on the area around them and that can have some serious repercussions for the plants and animals that live there.
The land-use changes and the infrastructure for transportation that are seen where soybeans are cultivated were not really anticipated, but they are happening. Because of the Global demand for alternatives to petrol, soybean production continues to rise. Unfortunately the result is reeking havoc on the environment.
Whether soybeans are going to continue to cause a serious problem for Brazil and other similar places in the future remains to be seen.
Right now, however, things are not looking that good for Brazil and the protected areas in which the soybeans are grown.

This is a really important issue.
I understand that the production of palm oil is causing parallel problems.
It’s really boring to note that moderation appears to be the answer to most of these problems. Get carried away with a good idea and things go wrong.
Diversity in everything is, perhaps, the answer?

Just another example of our our dependence on fuels to live our lives has caused another problem. It just keeps compounding. Thanks for sharing this information.
