Growing Orchids

Unless you live in Antarctica or in selected areas of the desert, you can grow one of the most sought-after home garden plants in the world – orchids.

There are three different types of orchids, and they’re based mostly on what kind of environment they need in order to grow well.  Most require more light, some are better at storing water, and almost all of them are great for allergy-sufferers.  Other plants can put a lot of pollen out into the air, but orchids generally don’t do that.

These flowers are harder to grow than many other types of plants, and that is something that you need to be aware of before you try growing them.  If you do your research and pay attention, you can get a lot of joy from growing orchids.

How much light an orchid gets is critical, and southern exposure with indirect sunlight is the best thing for them. If your orchids are struggling in the winter months because they’re not getting enough light there are grow lights which can help keep them alive until more natural sunlight appears.

Orchids also dry out easily and need a lot of moisture, so if you grow them indoors you’ll want to have pans of water nearby or mist them frequently to ensure that they get everything they need to succeed and bloom, giving your home added elegance and beauty.
