Fresh Squeezed and Organic! How To Grow Oranges.

The easiest and best way to grow oranges is to make sure that you get an orange tree that’s adapted to your area of the country. Only certain types of oranges grow well in certain places, for example Florida oranges might not grow in California. The tree that you choose should be planted in well-drained soil where it will be warm and get a lot of sunlight. Put mulch around the base of it so that water is conserved and the plant will have enough to drink. In midsummer when it is the hottest, the tree will need to be watered deeply every week to 10 days, but you can do it less often if it has rained or if the weather is cooler.

From February all the way through August, your orange tree will need to be fertilized every month to month and a half, and if temperatures are going to go below 28 degrees Fahrenheit you’ll have to make sure that your tree is protected from frost.

When it starts to produce fruit you can harvest the oranges, but some of this will be trial and error. You might have to pick one and taste it to see if it’s sweet enough, or if it should have stayed on the tree a little longer.  With a little practice you’ll learn just the right time of year to harvest your oranges.
