One of the best ways to help our planet and lead a more green organic life is try to cut back on some of the chemicals in you household.

Here are 8 great green natural alternatives for the nasty chemicals we use everyday:

#1 INSTEAD OF COMET OR AJAX

For a great all around cleaner and a perfect alternative to bleach cleansers, mix baking soda and a couple drops of tea tree oil. The tea tree oil acts as a natural anti bacterial, anti fungal agent. It is great for cleaning everything from counter tops to toilet bowls. A powder sugar shaker is great place to store this concoction. Don’t use too much however because it can leave a film behind.

#2 CHEMICAL LEMON SCENTED COMMERCIAL FURNITURE OILS

Make a PLEDGE for planet earth! Olive oil is a great alternative to commercial furniture oils.

#3 NO MORE WINDEX!

Club soda is perfect solution for streak-free windows.

#4 HARSH FOOT SPRAY OR ACNE MEDICATIONS

Tea tree oil is great for any skin fungus and bacteria including jock itch and acne.

#5 FORGET FABREEZ

Mix baking soda and lavender oil in a shaker bottle and sprinkle under your sheets instead of Fabreez. You’ll sleep like a baby and keep your sheets fresh!

#6 INSTEAD OF OVER THE COUNTER PAIN PILLS

Eat a handful was walnuts for a headache instead of Tylenol. Give it a try, it works, I promise!

#7 ALLERGY MEDICINE

If you sinuses are congested or if you have a problem with acne boil purified water and throw in a couple of lavender leaves. Take off the stove and place on a heat safe rack. Take a towel and cover your head while leaning over the steaming water. After about 5 minutes, wash your face.

#8 SODA SOFT DRINKS

Drink lots of water with mint and lemon or iced tea, instead of soda or sugar filled power drinks. if you do make tea, use the used bags to get your PH levels up in your garden soil.

Take care of your bodies, and our planet. Live green and go organic!

It’s amazing how we’ve been taught over the past 50 years that the chemical has yet to be invented which can’t solve some problem. Nature did A LOT for us millennia ago!

Hi Everyone!
Bryan- I agree washing your sinuses is a great alternative to commercial sinus medicine. There are some people that find it a bit uncomfortable though.

Mr. Sustainable- Nature is absolutely amazing. It has been providing us with cures since the beginning of time. In fact there is a cure to so many common ailments in nature. We just have to take the time to look.

Welcome Barbee! Thanks for stopping by and participating in the community. Hope to see you again.

I am loving the comments! Keep them coming.

I have finally kicked my bad habit of diet sodas and taken up mineral waters and lemon in my water to replace it. I feel so much better! I buy the mineral waters in large glass bottles to recycle and not in lots of small plastic bottles, I think that is better for the planet. If there is something more sustainable, let me know. I love #1 and #5 definitely going to switch over! Thanks!

Diluted vinegar is also a good alternative to chemical window cleaners. And don’t forget to use your newspaper instead of paper towels: still recyclable and doesn’t leave any streaks.

Hi Teri,
Good choice kicking the soda habit. I was addicted to it for years when I was a teenager. I can’t begin to tell you how much better I feel and how much better my skin looks. It is just not worth it between sodium and corn syrup. Yuck!
Thanks for participating and I hope to see you back here often.

Used teabags, before they go into the soil as you advise, are also good for giving the garden furniture a quick wipe … sort of like disposal scrubbies. If they rupture so what? it’s just leaves inside!

Hi Rewinn,
Great idea using the teabags for cleaning garden furniture! I am going to have to try it.
