10 Super Easy to Grow Indoor House Plants

Have you ever been to someone’s house and it just looks boring, like something is missing? Or maybe it’s your house that looks like this. Whatever the case, there is a good chance that the house is lacking greenery.
Plants help add to the ambiance of your home. They help create a nicer environment to live in and a balance between all the structural items of your house.
I know what some of you are thinking, you might be thinking to yourself, “I kill plants and I am not good at taking care of things.”
Don’t worry! you just need to make sure you do not purchase some exotic plant that belongs outside. Whatever you do, please don’t break down and buy silk!
Follow this list and you will be on your way to finding great plants for your home. Here are the top ten plants that are commonly used in homes.
Snake Plant/Mother in Law’s Tongue (Sansevieria trifaciata):
This is a great option for a low-light area that could use some plant beauty. The great thing about this plant is that it only requires a little bit of water in the summer months. During the winter it does not need hardly any water.
Chinese Evergreen (Aglanonema):
This plant grows well in low-light conditions. It needs to be watered on occasion and the soil needs to be well drained.
Dumb Cane/Leopard Lily (Dieffendbachia).
This is a poisonous plant when eaten so make sure you don’t have children or pets. The leaves are beautiful. Its soil needs to be kept moist but not soggy. Lastly, it works best with medium light.
Spider Plant/Airplane Plant (Chlorophytum comosum):
This is a great plant for an east-facing window. It removes formaldehyde from the air. It will survive in any condition, but does best in bright light with regular watering and soil that is drained.
Golden Pothos (Epipremnum):
This is also effective at removing formaldehyde. The vines on this plant have green heart-shaped leaves. You can neglect this plant and pests will not bother it. From time to time you can pinch the tips to make it bushier. It will thrive best if it is placed by an east-facing window and it is watered regularly. Just don’t over water.

Dracaena (Dracaena marginata):
There are a lot of varieties of this plant. Some prefer low light, some medium. Water requirements depend on their size and shape.

English Ivy (Hedera):
This plant is poisonous but very beautiful. It will look the best when sitting next to bright, filtered light. It does well with a little humidity, regular water and draining.
Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum):
This plant grows well in artificial light. Water this plant regularly. If you forget, it will start to droop.
Schefflera (Brassaia):
It prefers medium light, but will be fuller if you put it in bright light next to a south or west facing window. Also, let the soil dry between watering.
Heart Leaf Philodendron (Philondendron):
This plant is poisonous, but amazing at cleaning the air. It requires little light or water and has few pest problems. Too much light will burn the leaves.

I know you are right as I am a beginner with plants and have pretty good luck with some of the plants listed. Peace Lily, Mother-in-Law’s tongue, pothos and philodendron have worked well. Thanks for doing the research, now I’ll probably add Schefflera or a Dieffendbachia or both!
I like the mother-in-laws tongue. I don’t have many house plants (my peace lily is very neglected), but I think I’ll put some effort into them in the winter after my balcony container garden is a distant memory. Cheers!
Spider Plant/Airplane Plant is considered the best house plant for removing CO from the home or any closed in environment.
Appreciate the research Mandy. I used to have an airplane plant and miss it very much. Plants make good pets. They don’t eat or drink too much and never complain about anything whatsoever.
i agree.some of those are easy indoor plants to grow! i think aloe vera is also one of the easy plants to grow.
Amazing plants –
Mother in Law’s tongue, peace lily, English Ivy, philodendron, pothos, and spider plant – these all remove chemical toxins from the air (like synthetic fragrances are made from – i.e., benzine, acetone, toluene, formaldehyde). I have an English ivy at work because people STILL won’t leave their #*&^#$%!# perfumed products at home.
Of the plants I listed above, only the spider plant is not poisonous to cats / people. Another that is not toxic to cats is the bamboo palm, not sure how easy that is to grow, though. I keep trying to find one of these locally since I’ve ordered plants through the mail and it never works. A spider plant shouldn’t be that hard to find. People are always trying to “adopt out” their spider-babies.
